1) Background
INHERIT (INter-sectoral Health and Environment Research for InnovaTion) is a transnational 4-years research project funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme involving 18 partners from 12 countries. It investigates policies, practices and innovations that can influence our behaviours in ways that promote better health across social gradients, by looking at key environmental stressors and related inequalities. The project covers the areas of living (green space & energy-efficient housing), (active) moving and (food) consuming.
2) Project description
Main activities, outcomes and lessons learned from the INHERIT project finalised in 2019 are presented and discussed and an insight into the results of the INHERIT five-country survey focusing on physical activity is provided.
3) Results
Based on a conceptual Common Analytical Framework integrating the “Behavioural Change Wheel”, promising practices were identified across Europe, transferred and implemented to other contexts and evaluated, using a mixed-methods approach. Fifteen case studies were included into the analysis. Lessons learnt from these case studies as well as from cross-country surveys and citizens’ focus group discussions of four positive scenarios of future European societies shaped the elaboration of a tool kit with policy recommendations in support to INHERIT’s ‘triple-win’.
4) Lessons learned
The session contributes to a better understanding of the nature and extent of the impact and benefits of inter-sectoral interventions that address health, equity and environmental issues and of the role of behaviour (change) for both climate and health protection.
