The suspension monorail – a unique (and practical) vehicle

Suspension monorail

Wuppertal is world-famous for its suspension monorail, which went into operation in 1901. The Wuppertal poet Else Lasker-Schüler (1869-1945) referred to the extraordinary vehicle as the "steely dragon". The monorail crosses the city from west to east on a 13.3 km route, 8 m above the street and 12 m above the river. The complete ride takes 30 minutes - congestion-free. However, most passengers take the opportunity to get off at one of the 20 monorail stations and explore the city. After all, the next monorail stop is not far away, so you can continue the journey comfortably after a short stroll. The fact that you only have to wait an average of 3-6 minutes for the next monorail makes discovering Wuppertal particularly convenient.
