Prof. Filip Tack Ghent University, BelgiumProf. Filip TackProf. Dr. ir. Filip M. G. Tack is professor in biogeochemistry of trace elements at Ghent University, Belgium. He teaches in topics related to analytical chemistry, environmental and soil chemistry, and soil remediation and founded the Erasmus Mundus master programme, the International Master in Environmental Science and Engineering. His research interests include the study of the occurrence, chemical speciation and behaviour of trace metals in the environment, and management of moderate metal contamination using plants. He has editorial roles in “The Science of the Total Environment”, “Journal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science’, and coordinating editor of “Environmental Geochemistry and Health”.

Alessi is a Professor and the Encana Chair in Water Resources in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta and specializes in environmental geochemistry and geomicrobiology. His research group focuses on understanding the surface chemistry and reactivity of environmental materials such as iron oxides, bacteria, and biochar, on technologies for lithium extraction from oilfield brines, and on improving our knowledge of the water cycle in unconventional oil and gas operations. In 2022, he was elected a member of the College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists of the Royal Society of Canada.

Prof. Jim Ippolito Colorado State University, USAProf. Jim IppolitoDr. Jim Ippolito is a professor of environmental soil health. His 30+ year research program has focused on improving environmental soil fertility/chemistry/microbiology/ and soil health within agricultural, shortgrass steppe, grazed, burned, and metal-contaminated mined-land ecosystems. His research program connects the intimate linkages between soil macro- and micro-nutrients, trace and heavy metals, microbiological activity, and soil physical attributes, and how these factors combine to influence ecosystem sustainability and resiliency.

Prof. Anna Karczewska Wrocław University of Environmental & Life Sciences, PolandProf. Anna KarczewskaFull professor in the Institute of Soil Science, Plant Nutrition & Environmental Protection, Wrocław University of Environmental & Life Sciences (Poland). She completed long-term research stays in Vienna, Ghent and Copenhagen. Her research interests, practical experience and teaching activities focus on the biogeochemistry of metal(loid)s in contaminated soils, their bioavailability and ecotoxicity, assessment of related environmental risk and remediation of polluted sites. She supervised numerous research projects and expert works in copper industry-affected areas and the sites of historical arsenic mining. Prof. Jurate Kumpiene Luleå University of Technology, SwedenProf. Jurate KumpieneJurate Kumpiene, Professor at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden, is actively engaged in research and education in environmental engineering. She has ca 20 years experience in research and innovation in the area of soil remediation with particular focus on immobilization of soil contaminants and assessment of residual risks in remediated soil. In 2022, Kumpiene’s research on soil remediation has been selected by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) to the year's list of top national research projects with the focus on technology in the service of humanity.

Prof. Michael Mench University of Bordeaux, FranceProf. Michael MenchDr. Michel Mench (62 yr-old, PhD, Research Director at French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food, and Environment, University of Bordeaux, UMR BIOGECO INRAE 1202, Pessac, France) is involved in remediation of damaged and contaminated soils s, using phytotechnologies and phytomanagement. He has published 174 peer-review international papers and 39 book chapters. He developed his skill on selection of plant species, plant-tolerance to metal(loid) excess, (phyto)management of field trials for demonstrating the benefits and side-effects of phytotechnologies. He is expert for the EU COST, the French Research Agency and French Agency for Environment & Ecological Transition. He has led work-packages in EU projects: Greenland (2010-15), Intense (2016-19), PhytoSUDOE (2016-18). Currently he contributes to the EU projects BioFoodonMars, Phy2SUDOE, and GOLD. He is member of the Int. Soc. Trace Element Biogeochemistry (ISTEB), the Int. Phytotechnologies Society, Int. J. Phytoremediation editorial board, the COST Action PlantMetals, and the INRAE Ecotox network.

Prof. Dan Tsang Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong KongProf. Dan TsangProf. Dan Tsang is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Pao Yue-Kong Chair Professor in the State Key Laboratory for Clean Energy Utilization at the Zhejiang University. He was a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University in the US and Ghent University in Belgium, Senior Lecturer at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, and Post-doctoral Fellow at Imperial College London in the UK. Dan has more than 20 years of research experience and was selected as Highly Cited Researchers 2020-2022. Dan’s research team aspires to develop green technologies for fostering carbon reduction and resource circulation.
